Gratis diunduh. Semua lokas-lokasi gratis dari Google itu ditempatkan dalam satu halaman,” jelas Andrew McGlinchey (Product Manager, Google Southeast Asia) dalam acara peluncuran Google Maps Indonesia di Jakarta tadi siang (6/10).

Selain versi browser di PC, Google Maps Indonesia juga tersedia untuk versi ponsel. “Untuk yang di ponsel, kita bisa tahu posisi kita saat ini dengan My Location. Akan memberikan perkiraan lokasi kita jika fasilitas GPS tidak terpasang di ponsel kita. Tidak akurat sekali karena merupakan perkiraan,” kata Andrew.

Rasa lokal di peta itu makin kuat melalui kehadiran dua mitra lokalnya, Urbanesia.com dan Lewatmana.com. Urbanesia.com yang merupakan direktori untuk hal-hal yang terkait dengan gaya hidup, aku Andrew,  adalah mitra lokal terbesar Google di Indonesia saat ini.

Bentuk konkrit kerjasama Google dengan Urbanesia itu muncul dalam kemudahan mencari tempat-tempat menarik seperti kafe. “Misalnya mau cari pancake di Jakarta,” begitu contoh Selina Limman (Pendiri Urbanesia.com). Maka di lokasi terdekat kita akan dimunculkan tempat-tempat yang  menyajikan pancake.

Maka di peta akan hadir lintasan berwarna biru sebagai penunjuk jalan-jalan yang harus dilalui. Kamu juga bisa memilih rute yang tidak melintasi jalan tol. Di bagian bawah, sisi kiri, akan tercantum nama-nama jalan yang harus ditempuh.
